This is a great question! We ensure the quality and safety of our product by using the highest standards for our ingredients and processes. At Zoomy's our kitchen uses all the same ingredients and operational guidelines that a "human food" kitchen follows. That means fresh ingredients that go through government inspection and follow strict handling rules. While it seems like a "no-brainer", the industry standard is to buy sub-par, non-human-grade, non-government inspected ingredients, and then randomly test batches to decide if it should be used for your pet. We go above and beyond what is required, but your pet is worth it.

Zoomy’s strives to make the highest quality pet food on the market. All pet food companies say that; however, we live it! All our products use 100% human-grade ingredients, provide the guaranteed analysis, list EXACT ingredients ("breasts and thighs" as opposed to “parts”), and follow guidelines scientifically proven to provide a healthy diet for your pet (AAFCO). Some pet foods offer some of these features, but we are unique because we do ALL of them.

The short answer is neither. Our Recipes do not use any filler like corn, brewer's rice, or *pulses, which are the defining ingredients in those classes of pet food. Regarding the FDA study linking grain-free to DCM, please read the FAQ Question “What is Zoomy’s’ response to the FDA study on ‘grain-free’ pet food?”.

After you place your order, we will contact you to arrange shipping. You should receive the order within a week. Deliveries usually arrive between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you know you won't be home for part of that day, please leave a cooler by your front door. We package our shipments to stay frozen for up to two hours, assuming the weather isn't abnormally hot.

Ultimately, serving sizes should be discussed with your vet. Finding your pet’s portion size requires trial and error. It’s also important to know that serving size isn’t just an amount of food multiplied by your pet’s weight. Multiple factors come into play. To help you find the right amount we give suggested sizes based on  ADF tables. These take into account the weight and life stage of your pet. We have a calculator on each product's page that will give you a suggestion of how much to feed.

Pulses are part of the legume family (any plants that grow in pods), but the term “pulse” refers only to the dry edible seed within the pod. Beans, lentils, chickpeas and split peas are the most common types of pulses.

Pulses are offer a lot of health benefits for humans, but there is some evidance that they lead to heart problems in pets. Generally speaking, the main reason they are added to pet food is because they are inexpensive, filling and contain high protein. To put it another way: pulses are used as a cheap way to make your pet feel full, while allowing them to cut back on animal based protein. Zoomy's leaves these out of our recipes  because we have a  nutrition first mentality,  every ingredient in our food is only added if they directly contribute to a balanced and complete diet. We believe your pets are worth it.

When making a Zoomy's Recipe, we follow all the tried and true methods for creating a great pet food, like high-quality ingredients , and AAFCO Guidelines.

However, our aim is the make The Best Pet Food in Ottawa, so we also institute a Nutrition First Policy. When we create a recipe, we aim to remove any ingredients that don't "Pull their weight". Every Ingredient in our recipes has a specific dietary job. The result is a food that is free from fillers and is nutrient-dense.

That is why recipes only contain 100% human-grade ingredients, and listed with easy-to-understand and recognizable names so you can be confident in what you’re feeding your pet.

All of our Chicken, Pork, Turkey, and Beef is farm raised in Canada. We also buy Canadian Vegetables when seasonally available.

A lot of our caught or farmed in Canada. The few that are not are from Chili and Iceland.

We do NOT buy any ingredients from countries that have a poor history of good farming practices, or unethical working conditions.

We don't buy ANY ingredients from China, as there have been too many cases of food contamination.

Zoomy takes your privacy very seriously. We encrypt all our stored emails, so nothing you shared with us will be compromised in the unlikely case of a data breach. As an additional consideration for the privacy-conscious, every email we send includes two attachments: our PGP public key and digital signature. Our public key has also been published, so it's easy to find. You can ignore them if this isn't important to you.

“Picky eater” is one of our favourite words here at Zoomy’s.

The chances are higher that they will like Zoomy’s because it looks, tastes, and smells like food—that is because it is! Our food is as natural as it gets, just like the food you would prepare for yourself.

Also, with Zoomy's its much easier to switch your "picky eater" to an age appropriate diet. Some recipes come in a variation for puppies, adults, and seniors so you can make the switch wile maintaining consistency.

If your dog has a sensitive stomach, we suggest replacing 25% of the current food with Zoomy’s and mixing it very well. Each day, double the amount you replace until it’s all Zoomy’s.

Cats are like toddlers; they are forever scared of eating something unless they already know they like it!

Cats already eating wet or raw food are more likely to like Zoomy’s. Our formulas are made with 100% human-grade ingredients, so they look, taste, and smell like food, making the whole experience more palatable for your furry friend.

However, most cats won’t eat new food unless it is introduced slowly. Start by replacing a teaspoon of their current food with Zoomy’s and mixing it very well. Each day, double the amount you replaced. Once you’ve switched about 25% of their food, try giving them a full Zoomy’s meal.

We don’t use filler in our recipes, including the use of *pulses which is described in the FDA study and associated with grain-free food.

What you should know:

The FDA conducted a study to determine the role of diet in non-hereditary DCM and released an FAQ shortly afterward.

The study specifically looked at the effects of recipes with large percentages of fillers like *pulses and some grains. Since Zoomy’s doesn’t use any fillers, including pulses, our product doesn’t contain any of the potentially offending ingredients

Or to quote the FDA’s FAQ directly:

“Most of the diets associated with the reports of non-hereditary DCMe have legume seed ingredients, also called “pulses” (e.g., peas, lentils, etc.), high in their ingredient lists.”

We highly suggest reading both the results of this study and the FAQ they put out shortly after.
